Authorities mentioned they were alerted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

A senior representative commented the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed quickly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
