An individual who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two children who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.
Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody before a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he managed.
The defendant played a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had played this game with the boys "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She said the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the activities, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor said objects including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated the defendant went on to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"The police had not arrived by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The prosecutor stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.
She said the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
